Matthew Slonim

Chief Operating Officer

Matthew Slonim is a seasoned financial and real estate professional with over 20 years experience in the valuation, analysis and operations of various real estate related assets and entities.  His financial and analytical background gives him a unique perspective on the evaluation and underwriting of not only the potential assets for the fund, but of the economic and demographic drivers of the markets we target.  He is the Chief Operating Officer of The Besen Group, where he is responsible for overseeing all investment research and analysis for several operating companies under the corporate umbrella, including Besen & Associates and NYC Management. In addition, he oversees all facets of fund strategy, underwriting, research and reporting. He also serves on Besen’s Management and Investment Committees.

Mr. Slonim’s economic, finance, and real estate background make him highly skilled at identifying trends, quantifying upside (and downside) and making investment and asset management decisions accordingly to benefit real estate investors.

Mr. Slonim joined Besen & Associates in March 2003 as an Investment Analyst and has since been charged with various operational responsibilities and providing critical support on all new business development fronts. Under his supervision, the company’s team of investment analysts provides valuation and pricing recommendations, comparable market studies, cash flow analyses, internal rate of return projections, operating statements, and development scenarios.  Specifically, Mr. Slonim assisted in sourcing, acquiring and asset managing a portfolio of over 1,100 apartments in NYC on behalf of several private equity joint venture partnerships. In addition, Mr. Slonim has advised owners, investors and partners on acquisition or disposition transactions in excess of $1.0 billion in property values.

Early on in his career, Mr. Slonim worked as a Research Analyst at National Economic Research Associates, a division of Mercer Consulting focusing on asset and equity valuation in the Securities Litigation Group. He later worked at SG Cowen, in their Investment Banking Division originating and executing  IPOs and private placements. Prior to working at SG Cowen, Mr. Slonim was in the Corporate Banking Division of The Bank of New York.

Mr. Slonim received his BA in Economics from Washington University, and received his MBA from The Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.
